Olive Carney
Olive is a qualified Register General Nurse currently working at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) Dublin. She has over 38 years’ experience in the field of nursing, working in the U.S.A, U.K and Ireland. Olive completed her nurse training at Jervis Street Hospital and also studied at Trinity College Dublin. Olive has extensive management, leadership, education and training skills.
She has experience in Intensive Care Nursing, Trauma, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart/Lung Transplantation. Her current role as Clinical Nurse Manager 3, Centre for Nurse Education MMUH also involves the role of Early Warning System Coordinator, as part of the MMUH/HSE Deteriorating Patient Improvement Programme.
Olive is a cancer survivor, and developed bilateral lower limb lymphoedema following cancer treatment in 2010. She volunteers her time to improve lymphoedema services and promotes lymphoedema education for both patients and health care professionals. She has been the Mater Hospital Co-lead for the HSE Model of Lymphoedema Care - “Early Detection and Prevention of Lymphoedema - Proof of Concept Project” for patients undergoing Gynaecological and Breast Cancer related surgeries.
Olive has completed Dr Vodder Manual Lymphoedema Drainage (MLD) course (Level 1 & 2) and plans to undertake (Level 3) Decongestive Lymph therapy (DLT) studies later this year.
